the sycamore q+a {no.42}: Stephanie Brubaker of Stephmodo

On her blog,
Stephmodo, Stephanie Brubaker documents her extensive travels, delicious recipes, and design ideas. She recently spent several months living in France, along with her husband and three children, where they renovated a beautiful little cottage. La Maisonette (as they have named it) is in the historic town of Beynac, where films such as Ever After and Chocolat were filmed. You couldn’t find a more picturesque locale. And guess what? La Maisonette is available for vacation rentals! I’m saving up my pennies, but in the mean time, I’m getting my travel fix by reading Stephanie’s blog.

Now, for the Q+A:

1) How did you get into blogging?

It started as a way to stay connected with family and friends who are scattered across the country, but turned into something more when I realized this was the perfect venue for sharing my creative ideas as well (it turns out I have a lot to say!). If I’d anticipated where I’d be today, I would’ve taken my blog name far more seriously :)

2) What is inspiring you lately?

For me, inspiration lies everywhere…in the mountains, in a well-decorated space, in a different country, in a photographic image, in a conversation with a friend and in magazines + blogs. The variety helps me maintain balance and direction.

3) Tell us about a project you’ve been working on recently.

A friend hired me to design his urban loft office space, which is a completely different style than what is in my own personal space. I find myself pulling ideas from the times when we lived in urban environments ourselves. I am loving the opportunity to mix both iconic furniture pieces with budget-friendly pieces. It’s a challenge and I’m always up for one of those as long as I feel like it’s doable.

4) Is there anything else we should know about you?

Like every blogger, there is a lot more to me than my edited blog :)

I have to add that in addition to her impeccable taste, Stephanie is a really friendly and nice person. She brought her two youngest kids up to Heber to see our studio and grab lunch a couple of weeks ago, and I had such a great time.

Thanks Stephanie!
